EDA approves big grants
Suffolk News-Herald, November 9, 2014 — Suffolk’s Economic Development Authority on Wednesday approved two Economic Development Investment Program grants worth $200,000 for a new retail development and a new distribution center for an ice-cream company.
The Riverfront Shoppes, a new 39,000-square-foot retail, office and medical development in the Harbour View area, will receive one of the grants for $100,000. The development has announced a signed lease with Taste Unlimited, a chain that began with one shop in Virginia Beach in 1973 and since then has grown to six locations in the Hampton Roads area. It offers a lunch menu and catering as well as specialty food retail items featuring local producers, plus wine and gifts.

Retail, Medical, Office Complex Planned for Suffolk

A new high-end retail/office/medical development is planned for North Suffolk, in the Harbour View area.
Virginia Beach-based Gee’s Group recently closed on the purchase of 3.9 acres for the project, called Riverfront Shoppes. The site is near the intersection of Harbour View Boulevard and River Club Drive.
The company, whose principals are brothers David and Michael Gianascoli, plans to break ground on the project in late January, said J.C. Wynkoop, a commercial sales and development agent for S.L. Nusbaum Realty. Norfolk-based Nusbaum is the marketing and leasing representative for the 39,000-square-foot development, which has an estimated cost of $6.5 million.
